At Renown, we want to be so much more than just another trailer dealership. While we love putting our customers in the perfect cargo trailer to meet their needs, we love even more simply doing our best every day and giving back to our community. One particular charity that has pulled on our hearts for a while is Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish helps to grant the wishes of critically ill children. We recently received a letter of thanks from a child who benefitted from our gifts to Make-A-Wish and we wanted to take a moment to share John’s story with you.
When John was just 4 years old, he was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disorder that left his muscles too weak for him to be able to run or play sports with other children his age. Instead of moping, John decided to focus on what he could do, not what he couldn’t. So, he decided to take up playing the drums. Around the same time, he became enamored with anything having to do with American history. These two passions would lead to the opportunity for a truly unique wish-come-true for this intrepid youngster.
Make-A-Wish provided an opportunity for John to join his two favorite hobbies in one exciting event – playing in the drum corp during a Revolutionary War reenactment. On a cold, rainy Boston morning, John got to march side-by-side with fellow reenactors, drumming out historic drum commands that helped to direct the troops. John says, in that moment, he was able to forget all about his illness and to remain upbeat and positive in life, no matter what.
We were so encouraged by John’s story that we simply couldn’t keep it to ourselves. We hope his story encourages you to be a light in your world and give back in your community any way that you can. Please visit the Make-A-Wish website to make a donation and to read about the thousands of other children who have benefited from the work of this worthwhile organization.
